Hi Joyce. I followed your link from JPUSAInfo and saw this blog. I wanted to share my opinion...
I used to work in a homeless shelter in Boston and most of the "homeless" I saw weren't true poor, homeless people. Most were homeless because of alcohol/drugs. I usually don't associate that with Jesus being homeless. The two concepts are vastly different.
If that is the way you truly look at others, then I pray that you begin to see through Jesus' eyes. He came as one of us and identified with us. More than that, He loved us. Us, the losers of society. Us, the broken ones. He loved us so much He died for us and forgave us while He was at it.
Shane Claiborne says in his book "The Irrestible Revolution", page 264:
"When we look through the eyes of Jesus, we see new things in people. In the murderers, we see our own hatred. In the addicts, we see our own addictions. In the saints, we catch glimpes of our own holiness. We can see our own brokenness, our own violence, our own ability to destroy, and we can see our own sacredness, our own capacity to love and forgive. When we realize that we are both wretched and beautiful, we are freed up to see others the same way."
It is my hope and prayer that you learn to walk in that freedom. I pray the same for myself, wretched beauty that I am ...
I'm just an ordinary woman who loves an extraordinary God. I'm happily married and crazy in love with my adorable and hilarious husband, Jeff. My passion is seeing people receive healing and wholeness from Jesus ... nothing humbles or excites me more than being at the feet of my King watching Him do the amazing things only He can do. I am insanely and more-than-extravagantly blessed and surrounded by some of the most amazing friends I have ever known, all met at Crossroads in a city where I didn't know a single soul. Incredible. I am spontaneous, loud, borderline obnoxious, compassionate, kind, a quick and frequent laugher, and the queen of procrastination. I spend my life laughing in the face of storms and flying by the seat of my pants.
